AWEK presents compact POS-System smartTOUCH 2015 at EuroCIS 2012

The hardware portfolio of AWEK, provider of complete solutions for the retail trade, has been enhanced by a new compact POS system. The compact POS terminal smartTOUCH 2015 is easily operated via a touch screen and allows retailers to connect up a large variety of peripherals to upgrade the system. Its fan-less design makes the system robust and fail-safe, even in dirty environments.

The projected capacitive surface of smartTOUCH 2015 is extremely stable due to its protective glass with hardness rating 6H. For comparison, the hardness of diamond is 10H. The POS system is equipped with a 15“ flat screen in an aluminium housing which makes it suitable also for heavy-duty checkout environments. The touch screen is dustproof and splash-resistant and is classified as protection class IP64 in compliance with EU standards.

The compact POS terminal is equipped with a freely adjustable monitor allowing for relaxed working in any position. A large variety of peripheral devices may be connected up to the smartTOUCH 2015 system which provides interfaces for scanners, EFT terminals, cash drawers and many more POS peripherals. In addition the POS system may be upgraded with optional features such as fluorescent display, magnetic stripe reader, fingerprint reader, or a second screen.

“The small compact POS terminal fits on every sales counter even if there is only little space“, explains Arne Claußen, sales director at AWEK. “Owing to its upgrade options it is a highly scaleable system able to support retailers in their growth.“

GDPdU interface of AWEK certified by Audicon

AWEK, provider of complete POS system solutions, has been certified by Audicon GmbH, the leading supplier of audit software for auditors and tax inspectors, for its GDPdU interface.

The “principles of data access and auditing of digital documents“ (GDPdU) rule the archiving of digital data for auditing purposes, especially the POS data which need to be securely archived and held at the disposal of tax authorities for a period of 10 years. The certificate recently granted by Audicon, the distributor of audit software for tax authorities, confirms that the data being exported by the AWEK interface complies with the requirements of tax authorities in regards to machine-readability.

According to the provisions of the tax authorities dated November 26, 2010, any single voucher needs to be stored for a period of ten years. It needs also be accessible at any given time as well as immediately readable in a machine-readable format upon request. Digital documents and structural information have to be available in an analysable data format. Dr. Axel Becker, director of GDPdU consulting at Audicon explains the background of these provisions: “Sometimes tax assessors receive data in a format which they cannot read in the IDEA format and will reject them therefore.“ In this respect, the conformity audit by Audicon means safety for users as the customers of Audicon include about 14,000 tax assessors using IDEA as the official auditing software for digital tax inspections every day.

The GDPdU interface of AWEK was certified by Audicon for its IDEA software at the end of 2011. “The certificate ensures that the data from the interface are available in the so-called description standard”, says Dr. Axel Becker, and adds “The data provided by the AWEK interface guarantees reading and processing in IDEA without any problems.“

Owing to the description standard AWEK also complies with the tax authorities’ requirement for supplying data in a machine-readable format. Machine readability is guaranteed and realized by means of supplying a structure description xml-file to the raw data in ASCII code via the interface.

With the product smartSTORAGE AWEK makes available to its customers a certified product complying with the requirements of tax authorities regarding the principles of data access and auditing of digital documents and allowing to store digital data. in compliance with tax authorities.

euroSUITE of AWEK detects Manipulation at the POS

AWEK, provider of POS solutions for retailers, will present at EuroCIS 2012 the third generation of its software solution euroSUITE including special features for the automatic detection of skimming fraud.

Skimming, the illegal reading of credit and bank card data in order to draw money by means of counterfeit cards, increased by 50 percent in the year 2011, as shown by the statistics of the German Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA). Fraud gangs are especially active in retail shops and at gas stations where they secretly manipulate EFT terminals in order to get hold of account data and PIN codes. The manipulated data is then used abroad to draw money from the accounts concerned.

In order to reveal any manipulation at the POS AWEK has enhanced its software solution euroSUITE by features allowing to analyse potential skimming and to inform the staff in suspicious cases. The software is not only monitoring the connections with EFT terminals but also checks the environment for potential irregularities. So the staff at the head-office and in the shop are able to detect manipulations automatically and thus protect customers against skimming much more effectively than they were able to in the past.

“It is impossible or at least very difficult for users to detect manipulation on POS terminals from outside. Therefore retailers have a responsibility to check their devices themselves in order to guarantee their customers that payments are secure.“ explains Dieter Deffert, product and software development manager at AWEK. “Our software automatically monitors the PIN pads in the background. This feature helps retailers to detect and prohibit cases of skimming in an effective way.“

AWEK and ABC Retail present SelfScanning with new SelfPayment Terminal

AWEK, provider of comprehensive POS system solutions, and its strategic partner ABC Retail, specialist for process and IT consulting, will present at the EuroCIS a new integrated solution for self-scanning and self-payment. The know-how and the self-scanning technology required for this process is supplied by ReVison and ABC Retail whilst Motorola provides the scanners (MC17), AWEK delivers the self-payment terminal.

Self-scanning and self-payment are becoming more and more accepted in international retailing. The retailer benefits from a reduction of operating costs whereas customers enjoy a more pleasant shopping experience when they are in control of the checkout procedures. So both sides cash in on shorter checkout times and therefore find this technology essentially good.

With their new solution consisting of devices for self-scanning and a new payment terminal AWEK and ABC Retail launch a perfectly integrated system. It works as follows: After having scanned his/her customer card the customer takes a portable scanner from a shelf. Using this scanner the customers reads the bar codes of all the items while he/she puts them into the shopping cart. Hence, all necessary information (i.e. unit price/total) is already available to the customer on the scanner while shopping. Also, the hand-held can be used to advise of additional cross-selling promotions. When finished the customer goes to the self-payment terminal, scans his/her customer card again, and the receipt will automatically be displayed on the payment terminal. The customer is then led through the payment process by means of the intuitively operated user surface. After this the scanner is returned to the base.

“Our self-scanning system combined with the self-payment terminal of AWEK is a profitable solution for the retail trade“, explains Wolfgang Binninger, managing director of ABC Retail. “The system can be put to use in a variety of ways, and provides immediate advantages through lower costs and happy customers“, says Binninger.

AWEK presents Software Suite for the Fashion Trade

At this year´s EuroCIS AWEK will present a new POS solution for retailers in the fields of fashion and textiles setting new trends for the efficient management of all processes between POS, branch and head office. Being a comprehensive solutions provider for POS systems AWEK has developed the solution “euroSUITE Fashion" in recent months and will exhibit its product with extensive functionality at the fair.

In addition to the established retail solution euroSUITE, AWEK introduces this year a solution tailored to the needs of the fashion trade. euroSUITE Fashion supports all formats of the fashion trade like fashion shops, verticals, multi-label stores as well as franchise concepts. Applying technologies to the development like Java and open standards result in increased performance, the multi-layered SOA architecture provides scalability and connectivity to ERP systems. Moreover, integrated customer loyalty modules and the promotion engine supporting sales campaigns generate additional benefit for fashion retailers.

GUIs with style

The platform-independent POS solution provides comprehensive functionality for the point of sale. Fashion Modules
