One of the pioneers in using the new digital possibilities is ESSO. The German gas station brand of US oil company Exxon Mobil has retrofitted the existing Verifone H5000 infrastructure at all of their more than 1,000 gas stations in Germany. They use the technology in combination with apps for various use cases in the field of digital quotation communication. In the long term, it is planned to grant partners, such as the DeutschlandCard, access to the infrastructure so they can use it for their own location-based advertising as well.
